Austin Healey was at one time a sports car manufacturer. They have been through many rough years however, as of June 2007 the Healey Automobile Consultants and Nanjing signed an agreement with the hopes of bringing back the Austin-Healey and the Healey marques along with the NAC’s MG. There is no agreement to the exact time production will begin; however, the new MG series should be seen in China and the UK by the end of 2007.
The marque for Austin-Healey began in 1952 with a joint venture between Leonard Lord, the Austin division of the British Motor Corporation, and Donald Healey. Cars were in production until 1972 when their 20-year agreement came to an end. Nanjing purchased the assets of MG Rover Group along with the Austin name in 2005 when they brought the company out of bankruptcy. The Donald Healey Motor Company was sold to a new firm and renamed Healey Automobile Consultants. The Healey family sold the company to HFI Automotive in 2005.
Some of the popular Austin-Healey models include the Austin-Healey 100, which was produced under BN1 Austin-Healey 100 during 1953 and 1955, the Austin-Healey 100S built during 1955, BN2 Austin-Healey 100M built in 1955 and 1956, BN2 Austin-Healey 100-4 built in 1956 and 1957, the BN4 Austin-Healey 100-6 built in 1956 and 1957, and again in 1957 to 1959 with a change to 1 ¾ inch SU Carbs and the last of the Austin-Healey 100 was the BN6 Austin-Healey 100-6 6 cylinder motor from 1958 until 1959.
The Austin-Healey 3000 included from 1959 until 1961 the BN7 Mark 1 and the BT7 Mark 1. During 1961 and 1962 the BN7 Mark II, the BT7 Mark II, and the BJ7 Mark II was created. From 1962 until 1964, the BJ7 Mark II was produced. From 1964 until 1967, the BJ8 Mark II was in production.
The Austin-Healey Sprite was manufactured from 1958 until 1960 with the brand AN5 Mark I Bugeye in the United States and Frogeye in the United Kingdom.
During 1961 until 1964, we saw the AN6 and AN7 Mark II. From 1964 until 1966, we saw the AN8 Mark III with roll up windows. In 1966, the AN9 Mark IV was introduced and was in production until 1969. The last Mark V was only seen in the UK, which was the AN10 Mark V, which was created during 1969 until 1971.
