Jaguar also known as Jaguar Cars Limited is a car manufacturer that has its roots in Browns Lane, Coventry, England.

In its early days, Jaguar was founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922. William Lyons and William Walmsley created the first 2.5 litre saloon in 1935 bearing the name SS Jaguar. At this time, the Jaguar began to be the name for the company as well.

The company was not very popular until the 1950’s when they began creating unique, elegant, sport cars and saloons. In 1960, Jaguar purchased the Daimler car from Birmingham Small Arms Company. From that time, Daimler was put on some of the most prestigious luxurious saloons created by Jaguar.

In 1966, Jaguar merged with the Austin-Morris combine, the British Motor Corporation, and the British Motor Holdings. In 1968, they merged once again with Leyland and Rover and thus became known as the British Leyland Motor Corporation. In 1975, after some financial problems and the publication of the Ryder Report the company became known as the BL Ltd.

In 1984, Jaguar was separated from the rest of the company at least on the stock market.

In September 1989, the Ford Motor Company made an offer to purchase Jaguar. This offer was accepted in January 1990 and Jaguar was then removed from the London Stock Exchange on February 28, 1990. 1999 Jaguar became an important part of the Ford Motor Company’s new Premier Automotive Group with other automobiles such as the Volvo Cars and Aston Martin. In 2000, the Land Rover was added to the group and Aston Martin was recently sold.

Even though Ford purchased Jaguar in 1989, they have yet to see any profit. Many believe the reason that no profit is being seen is that during the 1970’s and 1980’s the Jaguar received a bad reputation of being unreliable. However, this fact is no longer true, as many improvements have been made to the Jaguars.
,br> Current Jaguars for 2007 include the XJ, which is a full size luxury sedan, the S-Type, which is a luxury sport sedan, the X-Type, which is a luxury mid-size sedan and wagon, and the XK, which is a sports car, coupe, convertible.
